Ron Howard's Call to Action: Opie and Andy Taylor and Richie Cunningham and the Fonz Are All Voting for Obama

Happy Days and Andy Griffith Show Spoofs Have Serious Message: Vote for Barack Obama

Ron Howard's "Call To Action", a video Ron made where he portrayed Opie Taylor and Richie Cunningham alongside Andy Taylor and The Fonz respectively, urges Americans to vote for Barack Obama.

Ron Howard, one of Hollywood's most respected directors, stepped out from behind the cameras and made this video which began airing on Funnyordie.com last Thursday. As a great fan of not only "The Andy Griffith Show" but "Happy Days" as well, it was a treat to see Ron
Howard replay these roles that made him famous. And for them to be endorsing my candidate, Barack Obama as well, wasn't bad either.

Joining Ron were Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler, another great director who stepped back into his famous "Fonzie" shoes to help out with the video. What makes this video so great is the fact that while Ron, Henry and Andy are supporting Barack Obama, Ron makes it clear that he wants everyone to get out and vote, no matter which candidate they vote for.

"I want to take a break from directing for a minute and do something that I've never done before. And that's talk about this election we've got coming up. This is a really important one America." Ron states at the first of the video. He goes on to talk about needing change in America, stating that is why he has chose to endorse Barack Obama. However, Ron also adds, "I have voted for candidates from both parties in the past and I probably will again."

"So as I said, I've never done anything like this before and I hope never to do it again, but I guess you could say I'm feeling pretty desperate these days," Ron says before stepping into his role as Opie Taylor after talking about how he's worked so hard over the past 25 years to become a respected director and film writer. The "Andy Griffith Show" part of the video shows Opie and his dad, Andy talking about voting with Opie saying, "When I'm a grown up, I'd sure like to vote for someone as good as Mr. Obama." This part of the video was done in black and white, just as the "Andy Griffith Show" was done all those years ago.
