A General Biography of Alexis Bledel

Alexis Bledel was born in Houston, Texas on September 16, 1981. Her full name is Kimberly Alexis Bledel, and her friends and family call her Kim. However, she is know as Alexis Bledel on the professional market. She is mostly known for her role as Rory on Gilmore Girls, but has also had roles in several films. Bledel's father, Martin Bledel, is from Argentinean descent, but her mother, Nanette Blake, is from Mexico. This made her first language Spanish; not learning English until she began school and attended St. Agnes Academy in Houston. Since she was shy as a child, Bledel's mother encouraged her to go into a local theatre. She appeared in local productions of Our Town as well as a production of The Wizard of Oz. After being scouted at one of the local mall, Bledel was given work as a fashion model.

After attending Page Parkes Center for Modeling and Acting as well as New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Bledel was able to land the role on Gilmore Girls in 2000. She plays the role of Rory Gilmore, daughter to Lorelai Gilmore. They are quite a team coming up with quick comebacks that are up to speed on pop culture. The series started off with Rory in high school. Currently, though, the show is in it's seventh season and Rory is not a college senior at Yale University. Bledel says that she can often relate to her characters feelings during a shoot. The character of Rory Gilmore is often seen carrying and drinking coffee on the show. After the first year of this, Bledel decided to put drinks such as tea or soda in the cups because she grew tired of coffee.

In addition to her role as Rory Gilmore, Bledel has also be in several films including Sin City, Tuck Everlasting, and most recently, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. She's played everything from a high school student to a prostitute to a friend just trying to survive the summer. One of her earliest film gigs was as unaccredited extra role in Rushmore. Rushmore was shot in her hometown.
