Why Criminals Should Be Sent to the Pitcairn Islands

It Would Solve Major Overcrowding Problem in Our Jails Today

Today, our jail systems are flooded with record numbers of criminals. Every jail seems to face the problem of overcrowding, and we need to do something about it. Fortunately for everyone, I have the perfect solution.

Two words: Pitcairn Islands. Yes, you read the text correctly. Now let me explain myself. Sending our worst criminals to the Pitcairn Islands would kill three birds with one rock. By that, I mean we will make the most hardened and horrible criminals deeply repent and beg for mercy, it
would be extremely hard to escape, and it would give the population there a well needed boost, seeing as they only have 48 residents.

Overcrowding is a major problem in our prisons. However, if we can take criminals that have committed the worst crimes, and isolate them on the Pitcairn Islands, they would be deeply sorry for what they did. There is no television, no radio, and only one single pay phone in the land. There would be no doubt in my mind that these murderers would be bored out of their mind, as one of the only things to do on the islands is farm (and we all know how much criminals love to farm).

There are actually four islands that make up the Pitcairn Islands, and only one of them is inhabited by the 67 people. The reason the other three are not inhabited is because they are very hard to get to. Even so, I see no reason that we could not drop them from helicopter onto the island. Once they were on the island, they wouldn't be getting off. According to the Pitcairn Islands Government Website, to rescue someone from the island this is what someone would have to do:

"To get to Pitcairn it is necessary to fly to Tahiti, then Mangareva, then embark on a further 30-hour boat ride. There is one boat every several months. Alternately, passage can be obtained aboard a few freighters out of New Zealand - it is a seven-day trip via freighter."
