More than 250 classic cars in a constantly-changing display provide a sensational treat at The Auto Collections, located at Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino on the Strip. Most of the cars (except those very rare and ultra-expensive) are for sale at $10,000 to $5 million. Touted as "the world's largest classic automobile showroom," it's located on the 5th level of the parking garage. It's also easy to get to from the Las Vegas Monorail.

In this time when you can't tell a Mercedes from a Chevy, it's a wonderful experience to look at some of the most stylish, beautiful and unusual cars ever created. The brand names of such cars are legendary: Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Mercedes, Bugatti, Pierce Arrow, Porsche, Thunderbird, Packard, Jaguar, Duesenberg, Lancia, Shelby Cobra, Oldsmobile and Dodge.

It's hard to know where to look as you amble along the roped-off rows of cars, since each car is more interesting than the last one. One car will catch your attention immediately and hold it. It's a 1959 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special. What makes this such a collector's item? It was driven by Marilyn Monroe in her last film, "The Misfits," and a devout Marilyn fan would love to own it.

According to the company, $120,000 was spent on its restoration. It comes with Christies' authentication of accompanying items, including a "white lace robe with delicate beading," and a "sexy white boa that she wore to premiers and functions." Also included are 8x10 photos of Marilyn (one with her 1954 Cadillac), a 16x20 photo of Marilyn in a negligee and a "lambskin leather hide embroidered with Marilyn's portrait." The price for all this? - You'll have to make an offer.

Another car used by a sex icon for a film is the 1929 Duesenberg J Derham Phaeton driven by Elvis in the 1966 movie, "Spinout." It's only $950,000 for this classic. Others will love a tough-but-pretty truck, a candy-red 1940 Chevrolet snub-nosed, stake bed model (it was only $47,800). You could feel proud driving this up to the entrance of Wynn Las Vegas!

Takeaways
  • The Pierce Arrow Silver Arrow is very rare, and thus very expensive.
  • The Auto Collections is always looking for fine classic cars to sell.
  • Even if not a car buff, you will enjoy seeing these wonderful autos.

Your collection is a fine collection with many great auto's. I have seen your collection being sold off in the pages of Hemming's Motor News. I was also privalaged to have seen the Bill Harrah collection up in Reno. There was a man with a passion and a true collector. I would love to have worked with Mr. Harrah and his cars. I would also love to work with the cars of the Imperial Palace, and Rob Williams. I have a full resume. sltoepel@charter.net
