Halloween Trivia and Halloween Facts
Do you know which holiday generates the highest candy sales by volume? It's not Christmas, not Easter, it's Halloween, according to Nielsen. So just how much candy will consumers be buying this year? Although the economy is sluggish, American consumers are
still finding the money for their Halloween costumes and Halloween candy. They also tend to buy the Halloween candy at the last minute. While this may seem like procrastinating, it is one way for adults to limit their own Halloween candy intake.
Halloween Facts About Candy
$1.9 Billion: The amount of money Americans are "expected" to spend on Halloween candy this year. That's a lot of candy for trick or treaters and sitting on candy bowls in neighboring cubicles. Source: Nielsen.
4.2 percent: increase in the price of chocolate this year. (Nielsen)
That price has not scared away consumers though. Chocolate is still going to be making its way into trick or treat bags across the nation. After all $1.2 billion of chocolate has to go somewhere.
In fact, prices have not stopped Americans from consuming candy or chocolate. In 2007 Americans each consumed an average of 24.5 pounds of candy, according to Current Industrial Reports, Confectionery: 2007 and the U.S. Census.
Trick or Treat Halloween Facts
Trick-or-treating is not what it used to be for children ages five to 13, if you go by the U.S. Census numbers. There will be 38,000 fewer trick-or-treaters in that age group this year, with 36 million trick-or-treaters.
Some communities have found alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating from door to door. Local libraries, malls, community centers, and even local gyms open their doors to trick-or-treaters, providing a safe, well-lit and supervised trick-or-treating adventure.
Halloween Costume Facts
Which Halloween costume accessory increased the most in price this year? According to Nielsen, it's hair coloring products. If you want to become a blond, redhead or Crayola head this year, it will cost you 126 percent more than last year.
