Well, everyone in the area knows about Ocean City, MD and what it has to offer in the summer, you have the beach, the sun, the food, the alcohol, and the crowds! Due to that it might not be the best place to plan a romantic escape to "in season", but during the off-season it's a great time just for that very thing. I'm writing this article because I know quite a bit about the opportunity to propose in Ocean City, MD. I actually did it 8 years ago. First I'll share my story, and then I'll give you some other ideas I thought of either while planning my proposal or after I had gotten home from our weekend at the beach.

I was looking for the perfect time to take my girlfriend at the time to the beach to propose. I was searching for packages on the internet, and low and behold I found the perfect one for me. It was at the Coconut Malorie which is on 59th Street and the Bay. It is isolated overlooking Assawoman Bay on the western side of Ocean City, MD. It has a view of a small island in the bay called "Fager's Island". The hotel looked gorgeous on the website, had an elegant look to it while not being too fancy for our tastes. I managed to get a deal which included one night stay, a $50 credit to dinner at Fager's Island restaurant, plush robes, and a continental breakfast. Of course I did make one little mistake on the way to the beach, I left my bank card in a pair of pants at home. Panicking I stopped halfway to Ocean City and called the hotel while my wife went to get us each a soda. They said not to worry, they didn't need it since I had paid ahead of time. I had enough cash on me for the other expenses we would need. So, we continued on the trip, and although I didn't realize my girlfriend (now my wife) said that she thought something might be up but at one point I said "Someday if all goes well and we get married" on the way down so that made her doubt her guess.

Takeaways
  • Be creative when proposing
  • Consider the type of woman your girlfriend is when deciding on how to make the proposal
  • Don't be afraid to ask the hotel or restaurant to help in the proposal if you trust them and want to make it more dramatic
