There is no shortage of excellent restaurants in Newport News, Virginia. Whether your tastes run toward Italian, Oriental, German, or just plain good old-fashioned American food, there is a perfect place to go for a romantic dinner on Valentine's Day or any day. The following represents a cross section of the city's best restaurants:

Being close to the ocean means that seafood is often a popular choice in Newport News. If your significant other loves that kind of cuisine, try one of the following favorite Newport News seafood restaurants:

Bill's Seafood House, located at 10900 Warwick Blvd. The focus here is on the food, not the atmosphere. If you are looking for romantic candlelit tables, then this may not be your cup of tea. However, if your Valentine's pallet hungers for a delicious variety of seafood tastes, then Bill's can probably fit the bill. Service sometimes runs a little slow because this is a popular place. If you are in a hurry, you might want to look elsewhere. Dinners range in price from $10.99 and up, excluding appetizers and/or desserts.

Bonefish Grill, located at 340 Oyster Point in Newport News. This little, out of the way restaurant has a lot of atmosphere if you don't mind paying the price for it. The menu isn't extensive but solid, with a focus on seafood. The portions are small and the prices are high. But if you want to try something different, this may be the place for you. Entrée prices range from $15.99 and up.

For wonderful American food with a slightly exotic twist, try:

Barclay's, located at 940 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. This restaurant won the 2004 and 2005 Crystal Stem Award for Wine and the 2005 Service Quality Excellence Award. It offers upscale dining in a casual, intimate Bistro setting that is also romantic. Menu items include lobster, duck, shrimp, calamari and other seafood as well as lamb, pork, and veal. Prices range from $19.99 and up.
