In 1966, a man named Anton LaVey took up the ideal of being the sighted man that not only sees but also paints with the colors that a colorblind man could never understand. That is to say he literally used his own insight and systematic understanding of religions as a whole to bring forth his philosophy, his religion, to society.

LaVey knew that some individuals were not content with labeling everything and even less so with being labeled. The internal call to explore the world that they live in, to live with a passion and to not be pigeonholed by man’s religious attempts to remove physical nature, could not be ignored without detrimental psychological effects.

His new religion gave positive recognition to those that have suffered persecution for going against Christian morals and beliefs. Scientists, surgeons, alternative thinkers and enjoyers of consensual sex now had a religion that appreciated each man and woman that was ridiculed by Christianity. Satanism was born.

Satanism is not in any way Devil-worshipping. In fact, the word Satan was chosen for many reasons, but none was for the approval of the worst acts that man could commit to another. Satanism is the acknowledgment of man’s best and worst, and that there is no supreme God that rules you. However, the word does stand for the snubbing of Judaism and their perceived right morals.

As an agent for the Church of Satan, controversial Jack Malebranche- writer, artist and proprietor of www.sataniclust.com – has fielded many questions on Satanism. His magnetic personality and artistic vision is far from what many expect from a Satanist.

Upon the Church of Satan receiving my outlined request for an interview to discuss Satanism in today’s society, Jack Malebranche graciously accepted.

Takeaways
  • Satanism, as codified by Anton LaVey, is not devil worshipers.
  • Satanism respects those that have been criticized by Christians, such as Galileo and Copernicus.
  • Satanism is against the killing of humans or animals, unless for food or physical protection.
Did You Know?
Satanism is common among law enforcement officers and scientists.

This was probably one of the most original articles I have read on here. Great job.

I've actually met several well-spoken and highly intelligent Satanists -- and plenty of sphincters, too. While I don't adhere to their philosophy I find their perspective vis a vis Christianity and traditional Western philosophy to be fascinating.

What's interesting to me about Satanists is that, in general, the ones I have met are not pleasant people to be around. Not that anyone ever has to be pleasant for my sake, but I figure that after all of the Satanists I've met, there would be at least one who I didn't think was a complete ass. Sure, they are fun at parties or in one-night-stands, but after that there's just nothing. Self-interest, indeed. They seem to just not care about anything or any person. I'm sure they'd have something snotty to say about this...

Great interview Jack! The Black Flame burns dark and lucid!

After reading the ENTIRE article, the direction offered sems as likely to fail someone as Christianity. It doesn't really make sense that C.O.S. is a 'viable' alternative, or why anybody 'needs' an alternative to Xianity insanity.

Once one figures out the italics-bold-italics style of the interview, and then reads the entire article, one will agree when I say that this is a 'must read' for those who are looking for direction in their lives should organized christianity fail them, and want to seek a viable alternative. Reading the Church of Satan's official stand on abortion was most informative.

Satanism is exactly what they claim to hate. According to Jack, the Crusades and the Inquisition are simply things that man does because they're animals- something the satanists celebrate. It's ALL based on self interest, the inquisition is exactly that.

Setting the responses in italics makes it difficult and tiresome to read. Italics should only be used as emphasis.

I'm glad some people are finding this helpful. I recieved flack for doing this from people I know well. I will have to admit that most of it is by Christian faith followers. It is very hard to think outside of the box when inside the box is all you have see. :)

This is the first time Satinism has been put forth to me in any positive manner. To me it is a refreshing way to get the ball rolling. People, society as a whole, need to start understanding life as we know it is soon to be changed forever. Most likely in a single instant with no warning. It is very hard to prepare for something we have no understanding of. And anything we believe in now could be mislead. Therefore it seems to me a reavaluation of oneself in the value of their own morals and their basis, is in order fo everyone. I do not knock or accept satinism as my beleif to follow, at the same time it is good to know options are mine if I choose. Christianity certainly seems hypocritical. Catholics speak for themselves. For thousands of years they repeat history. Power is a great deceiver.

Gee, this article shows that Satanism is as boring and sad as Christianity, and more long-winded. Like Ozzy Osborne, they were more intriguing when they didn't speak.

An interesting read. I was especially interested in the question/answer regarding Hurricane Katrina. I definitely learned more about Satanism than I knew before. Nice job.
