I used to like Kentucky Fried Chicken. This chain was known for its steady leadership from Colonel Sanders, who was not afraid to confront a franchisee, who did not follow his recipe and service standards exactly. He was a tough old man, who proved this level of dedication numerous times, and was known for his coarse language. With his passing, KFC lost a lot of its luster, and soon became complacent. The quality of their products diminshed, and a lot of their restaurants were known to be messy, disorganized, and for serving unsatisfactory meals. Church's, although not as well known, had excellent prices for fried chicken meals. However, their product was and still is too greasy, and lacks the seasonings that the other two provide.

I always thought that these restaurants were named after the cartoon character. However, according to their corporate website, they are named after Popeye Doyle, from the movie "The French Connection."
