Nowadays it seems that just about all kids want to participate in some type of extracurricular activities. But there is one very important thing that parents need to make sure of before they allow their child to sign up. What is it? As a parent it is your responsibility to make sure that your child can handle balancing both the activity and school. For most children this is a task that is a lot easier said than done. Your goal as parents is to make sure that your child does not overwhelm themselves with too much. If they are too exhausted after participating in an extracurricular activity, chances are that their school work will begin to suffer. There are however several things that you can do as a parent to ensure that these activities do not interfere with your child's performance in school.

The first thing that you will need to do is sit down with your child and show them how to properly make up a schedule. This schedule should include time to complete their homework, and or study, as well as time to practice for the extracurricular activity. You should also take the time to find out what activity your child really wants to participate in. Most children want to try and do everything, but parents should limit the extracurricular activity to one per year or at least until one particular activity is completed. This is just one way to help ensure that your child's extracurricular activities will not interfere with school. Another suggestion is to also make sure that your child has plenty of time to just unwind and relax. Children need an opportunity to just have some time to them. This is definitely something that you would want to work into their schedule.
