The 2008-2009 North Dakota Grouse Hunting Season
The 2008-2009 North Dakota Grouse hunting season is that time of the year that hunters can pursue Ruffed Grouse and Sharp-tailed Grouse in the state of North Dakota. This hunting season is determined by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and approved by the United States Fish and
Wildlife Service. Not only do these two entities determine the dates of the 2008-2009 grouse hunting season in North Dakota, they also set all the rules and regulations that are related to this hunting season, such as licensing, amount of birds that can be taken, weapons that can be used and hunting areas throughout the state.
The dates of the 2008-2009 North Dakota Grouse hunting season are September 13, 2008 through January 4, 2009. During this season, grouse hunters in North Dakota can take a daily bag limit of 3 birds and have a possession limit of 12 birds. They also can legally hunt from half an hour before sunrise to sunset. During these dates, Ruffed Grouse can only be hunted in Bottineau, Rolette, Cavalier, Pembina and Walsh as well as the part of J. Clark Salyer National Wildlife Refuge located in McHenry County that lies south of the Upham-Willow City Road. Sharp-tailed grouse can be hunted throughout the state during these dates, except in the Prairie Chicken units located in the North and Southeast portion of the states. Prairie Chicken permit holders can, however, hunt Sharp-tailed grouse in these areas during October 11 through October 19, in conjunction with the Prairie Chicken hunting season for this area.
Hunters wishing to participate in the 2008-2009 North Dakota Grouse hunting season must have a North Dakota hunting license, such as a fishing, hunting and furbearer combination certificate, a small game license or a general game and habitat license or combination license and proof of a completing a hunter education course if they happen to have been born after 1961. Non-residents of North Dakota will also need these same licenses in their non-resident category.
