Ways to Make a Small Bedroom Look Larger

Cheap and Easy Decorating Methods

A small bedroom is not a desirable amenity of a home, but many houses have small bedrooms, especially older homes. With a few simple color tips and creative decorating tricks, it is possible to make a small bedroom look larger than it actually is. Try the following
easy ways to make a small bedroom look larger, and whether you are attempting to sell your home or plan to keep it for years on end, a bedroom decorated to appear larger will become more comfortable and more appealing than ever.

Start with Wall Color

If the walls in your small bedroom are covered in large patterns or darker colors, make the bedroom appear instantly larger by painting or papering the walls in a lighter hue. Light colors naturally enlarge the look of a small bedroom, and paint is one of the least expensive ways to make a small bedroom look larger than it really is. The price of a can or two of paint is a small price to pay to enlarge the appearance of the room, especially when attempting to sell.

The color of the ceiling is also a major consideration when attempting to make a small bedroom look larger. To add height to a low ceiling, paint it white, and to make the entire room look larger, paint the ceiling the same color as the walls. You might even consider papering a smooth bedroom ceiling with wallpaper that includes lighter colors for a unique and interesting new look that will naturally draw the eyes upward.

Repurpose Unnecessary Furnishings

Nothing makes a small bedroom feel more cramped than furnishings that are really not necessary. Look around your small bedroom for furnishings you can live without, and repurpose them to another area of the home. Simply removing a nightstand, a cedar chest, or an extra chest of drawers can make a tremendous difference in the overall look of the room. Any undersized room or space will look much larger when more of the floor is visible.

These are good tips. When I was a child, I had a really small bedroom, but I quickly revamped it, decorated and turned it into a nice room, despite the fact that it was so small. Sophie

The small bedroom I shared with my husband has only a bed, a dresser and a tv. Maybe I should move the tv out for more space. Great ideas. :)

Great ideas - here's another: Put the bed on an angle coming out of one corner.
