Without a doubt, I think, one of the most romantic places in New Orleans, and by far one of the best spots to propose marriage in the Crescent City, is the Feelings Café. Located at 2600 Chartres Street, Feelings Café offers the perfect intimate atmosphere for couples looking for that special place.

After its initial opening in 1979 on famed Royal Street, Feelings moved a year later to its current location, part of the first plantation land granted for private ownership in the historic Faubourg Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans.

There are two really great dining rooms to choose from, one in the main house and one in the old slave quarters. Both are quiet and intimate enough for fantastic romantic dining and cozy balcony tables for two provide the absolute perfect setting for that special moment. The atmosphere of 19th century New Orleans, complete with old red brick, French shuttered doors, antique wood panels, mirrors, and soft candle lighting, will make your Feelings experience one to remember.

Perhaps the most romantic spot in the café is the beautiful courtyard. The surface is made of bricks recycled from the old slave quarters' fireplace and the intimate setting is made complete by amazing palms and banana trees. Balcony seating overlooks the courtyard and music from the piano bar is audible, but not loud, adding a nice touch to an already comfortable environment.

The Piano Bar, which is separated from the courtyard by a row of French doors, is very popular with the café's patrons. The pianist will play your individual requests and provides a nice set of romantic songs to complement your intimate evening. Many of the piano bar's visitors take home one of the locally designed martini glasses as a memento of their trip to Feelings. A bit of warning is in order, though. The glasses are priced at $35.00 each or $60.00 for a set.
