Bodie State Historic Park in California is a ghost town that sits on the western edge of California. Bodie, California sits at an elevation of 8375 feet up in the mountains making it a hard journey to get to. Bodie, California is about 100 miles north of Death Valley, California and it is reached by taking state road 270. The last three miles that you travel on state road 270 is unpaved so it is a rough drive. Bodie, California is not easy to get to today and it wasn't easy to get to over one hundred years ago when the town of Bodie, California still had a population of about 10,000 people living in it.

Today the population of Bodie is only an estimation of the ghosts that still haunt it but over one hundred years ago the town was bustling with saloons, brothels, gambling halls and opium dens. Bodie, California was known for it's less then angelic atmosphere. Bodie was a tough and lawless gold mining camp that yielded almost $100 million in gold ore over the course of it's existence. In the early l900's the town of Bodie, California was devastated by fires and earthquakes and the population declined overnight leaving behind what you see today. The town of Bodie is much like it was when the people left it in the early l900's.

Because of the way the people evacuated Bodie, California many of the buildings are still standing for people to come and see what town's were like back in the early l900's. About l70 buildings remain in Bodie and when you walk through the town you can feel the energy that once was bustling through the town of Bodie, California. The town of Bodie, California will not be restored to it's original shape but the buildings are being taken care of so they will not decay any further. Bodie, California will remain a ghost town so we can go and see it and enjoy it as it is today.
