Ever since NBC's "Heroes" became a hit in its first season on television, people have been wondering: What's going to happen come January? We've all been looking forward to the moment we can start up our annual "Jack's Back" campaigns. I know I personally have anxiously awaited the return of America's number one defender (at least, as far as television is concerned). Yet in the back of any "Heroes" and "24" fans' minds has been the puzzle of what to do come January . . . that is, come now. "Heroes" and "24" will compete on two different networks for viewers, and any fans of the newcomer must feel some twinge of fear at the idea of what Jack Bower will do when he comes back. "He's coming back?!" some likely screamed. "I thought he was in China!" (Clearly they'd forgotten one important detail: this is Jack Bower we're talking about here) Now all that's left to do is choose sides (or choose TiVo), sit back, and see what happens.

Yet in the calm before the impending storm, I began wondering to myself. In my wonderings, I thought, "Could anybody beat Jack Bower? Could anything or anyone possibly be enough to take out our modern hero who has survived everything from having threats against his life to capture by the enemy to drug addiction, car accidents, fires, and the threat of an impending bomb?" And then something clicked. Haven't NBC's heroes endured the same things? Yes, they certainly have! So that got me thinking, could any of NBC's heroes possibly prove a formidable force against Fox's television titan? This seems worthy of some investigatory . . . er . . . ness . . .

So, overlooking made-up words (and some possibly faulty logic), let's look at how Jack stacks up against some of our favorite new heroes, namely Peter Petrelli, Niki/Jessica Sanders, Hiro Nakamura, and Claire Bennett.

Jack Bower -vs- Peter Petrelli

1. Peter has the power it seems to absorb the abilities of any hero he's in close proximity to. If this is the case, could Peter possibly absorb Jack Bower's apparent invulnerability in the same way he did Claire's? Hm, sure, doubtful, but undeniably (don't deny it) a possibility.

Who would win in a battle between the heroes and Jack Bower? You decide.

Takeaways
  • Jack and the heroes of "Heroes" have endured similar (sort of) situations.
  • Some cast members wouldn't stand a chance against Jack, such as Simone, Isaac, and Mohinder.
  • Maybe next week we'll try and figure out which show has the worst villains . . .

Yes; Niki/Jessica has been an enigma since the character(s) was/were first introduced. Several viewers are adamantly certain that she's simply suffering from a multiple personality disorder; others, however, still grapple with how, even if this were the case, one of those "personalities"-- most likely Jessica, as we've seen-- has the ability to tear a person in half and strike general fear in all those around her. So, hopefully Kring and the other writers will let us in on their little secret sometime soon! CHEERS! :)

I gave up on 24 after the second season, so I was thrilled when Heros was introduced. I am enjoying Heros except for the Niki/Jessica character, I'm confused on where her character is going...

Haha, glad no one commented on the "Bower" versus "Bauer" before I did . . . What a big, big, disgusting error. I'm surprised I'm still alive . . . Jack, forgive this one teensy-weensy mistake! :)

Thanks for the message, Ben . . . Apparently, "Heroes" came out pretty well this past Monday; in fact, it did a little-- just a little-- better than "24". But who knows how long it will last . . . all I know is, I'm now in love with Nathan Petrelli; not so bad a guy after all :) Nathan: [bends down and kisses Peter, brushes his hair] I love you, man.

Khara, how funny! I have been a longtime fan of 24, so my guess is that Heroes will suffer from this situation, but maybe Claire will appeal to the more morose and feeling Jack! Bravo!

Thanks, Charlotte. I think I've just made the big decision; my loyalty will be to both, but I'll probably be watching 24 Monday night and buying Heroes on Tuesday on iTunes!

Wonderful article. I hate to say that I've never seen an episode of "24". I don't have any reason specifically why. I just never have. But I'm a HUGE heroes fan so I know where I'll be on Monday night without a doubt. Good job!
