Some of the subjects taught in a master's degree program in business administration include business principles, accounting, business theory, the structure of various types of companies, company management, business ethics, financial management, corporate education, e-commerce, information technology, marketing, human resources, project management, financial analysis, security management, public administration, and entrepreneurship.

Each university has its own MBA (Master's in Business Administration) program tailored to the principles of that university. After receiving an MBA, a graduate can hope to obtain an executive position within a reputable American company, based on his experience and education. MBAs are geared toward businesses located in the United States, although some international principles of business are taught as well. But the focus of the MBA subject matter is definitely on American businesses.

Global business degree graduates are taught these same subjects as well as cultural protocol, differences between American-based companies and international corporations, and differing business principles. Each subject is geared toward global business standards, rather than American business standards. There are many schools that specialize in international business degrees and they are becoming increasingly more popular as companies expand into foreign countries.

For an American executive to transfer to his corporation's business location in a foreign country, he would have to apply all the subjects he was taught in his MBA program to his new environment, a staggering learning curve. Global business degree graduates are more easily able to transfer their knowledge base to practical application in a foreign-based company or their corporation's location in a foreign country, than someone who has been taught primarily American business standards and principles.
