New Age Education
I believe that distant learning can fulfill the purpose of true education. We live in a fast paced time were technology is constantly replacing certain things. I believe education is not when you learn something new but when your behavior about that subject changes.
When you begin to put what you've learned into action and compound on that until you get better and better, it's just like a baby learning how to walk. Those repetitive steps from learning what to do and how to do it stay with them their whole life.
I say, as long as you're getting the information and your putting into good use or should I say applying then your educated yourself to the fullest.
The reason why most college attrition rates are so high is because ones attention span is growing shorter by the day. People are bombarded by sales pitches and fancy gadgets every 30 seconds, it's hard to keep your mind focused on one thing for a long period of time. Now if the education material was presented in a more entertaining fashion, which can grab the students' attention and hold it there that way a student would learn more efficiently.
The best way of doing this is conveying information online with different media types. Considering the high amount of drop outs, quitting school because they say it's no fun or too boring this doesn't seem like a bad idea.
A lot of people have trouble letting go of how things have been done for years and can't accept the fact that technology is beast to reckon with. Online - interactive environments will replace teachers and classrooms in the near future, just like the ATM relieved a lot of bank tellers. I know it's hard to hear that and I'm not trying to sound too brash but it's the truth.
In a modern everything is becoming faster paced, students can learn faster if their minds is focused and entertained. If you ever watched a child play video games you will see exactly what I mean, if there not good at anything, it will be video games. I say we channel that medium and use as an education medium to help students learn faster and more efficiently.
