NBC began it's nation wide search for contestants for it's new reality game show "Fortune" in Detroit. Fortune is unique to it's predecessors as there are no silly hoops to jump through. That's right, you don't have to carry a tune, have a stockpile of obscure knowledge, the ability to survive the elements, ,massive physical strength, or perverse dancing skills. All they asked was that those attending were in need of money. Who wouldn't need free money? Judging by the turn out, half the city..with the call running from 9 am to 6pm, there were people lined up hours prior to it's commencement.

With that said, thousands of eager hopefulls filled Detroit's Renassiance Center in hopes that they could convince multi-millionaires that they were worthy of their money. All would be contestants were alloted a one minute time frame to plug themselves as well as their plans for the funding. From entrapeneurs looking to get money for their business ventures, to single mothers asking for college tuition, all walks of life filled the long and disorganized lines which seemed to be miles long. In fact, a friend of mine and I waited for over two hours to move all of fifteen feet.

According to the official NBC site, casting calls were also held in both New York City and New Orleans this week. Stops scheduled for the upcoming week included Lexington, St. Louis, and Houston before concluding on the 9th in Los Angeles. Hopefully they will not be as disorganized as the one in here was.

The network also accepted entries recieved by mail for those without a desire or ability to attend an open call. All entries are under the same regulation, one minute to prove their claim.

There is no word on the network's site as to when they are planning to begin taping or an expected air date.

I didn't do it for myself...was actually there with a friend who was requesting money for a sex change.

I'll probably watch just to find out how someone can sell themselves in one minute! Did you get your minute? If so, what did you do with it?
