When it comes to home schooling your child you really do have a lot of different options to choose from when it comes to choosing a method, and curriculum. Some parents feel overwhelmed with the responsibility of home schooling their child, but they still feel that it is the best option for them. Did you know that there are plenty of online courses that you can choose to sign your child up for?

One thing that you do want to beware of is what is called informal classes. This is where you would make an agreement with anyone who is willing to teach your child a particular subject. Some of these types of classes are offered by substitute teachers, or ex-teachers, who work as tutors and for a fee will work with your home schooled child. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with hiring someone to tutor your child, but you should not count on them to teach your child everything that they need to know. Hiring someone to teach an informal class should really be in addition to your own home schooling curriculum.

To provide content to your article... There are many different types of homeschooling; Classical, Unit Study, Trivium, Independent/Self-Study, Eclectic... to name a few that comes to mind. Age, level of maturity and the personality of your child should be the determining factor in choosing what works best for you and your child. Each child has their own gifts/abilities and strengths/weaknesses. It is best not to force them into a boxed curriculum plan, but instead make the curriculum fit your child. See www.hstreasures.com for free help articles and links to free resources. Google for many more helpful websites like that. You can utilize the free online tests to know where to start and/or what areas they need the most help. We've homeschooled for years and I've never heard the phrase "informal classes". Oh well, the more we read, the more we learn too!
