After a five year search, I am pleased that Will Packer took the risk to back such a spiritually filled film with Executive Producers Holly Davis-Carter and Fred Hammond. "The Gospel" has it all -- Drama, Demons, Deliverance! Director Rob Hardy, will get Oscar recognition even if it's just for the superb Original Score of Stanley A. Smith and the additional score of Fred Hammond. This film was a great genre change based off of his past two films "Trois" and "Pandora's Box."

The opening shot made you feel nostalgic with the historic mirage of the African-American church experience. Color and black/white stills of church made you feel like it is Sunday morning. Pull out your handkerchiefs for the sweat from Yolanda Adams and Fred Hammond Oscar-worthy performances! They had every hand clapping, every mouth singing and every foot tapping.

Dedicating his life to being a minister in his father's, Pastor Taylor (Clifton Powell) church and singing in the choir, David (Boris Kodjoe) brought the drama by being traumatized as a child by losing his mother. He decides to turn his back on his calling and his father because his father was busy doing church work instead of being at the hospital. This family turmoil will lead David down a road lead by Satan in the secular entertainment business. His father's illness brings his out of the glamour and fame of the music business and back to his Christian roots.
