Sneak Peek: David Archuleta to Release Self-Titled Debut November 11th
American Idol Season 7's runner up David Archuleta is about to release his self-titled debut on November 11th, just a week before the winner David Cook will release his. The new album featuring his hit single "Crush" is a combination of his steady calm vocal songs with upbeat beat filled compositions tailored for radio.
Opening with "Crush," this is the current single that's climbing the charts and is only 150,000 copies shy of being a platinum single. He's found himself falling in love for the first time. He would like her to feel the same about him and wants to know if she ever thinks of him. David asks himself if he's in love or is it just a crush but somehow feels like the crush isn't one to cease. He wants to ask her if they're just friends or if there's more. The song was isn't what Idol fans expected to hear at first in terms of arrangements but the song fits his vocal capability.
Making an appearance on the album is David's rendition of Robbie Williams hit "Angel" that was also covered by Jessica Simpson. Of the three who performed the song for a studio album, David Archuleta has the most pleasant vocals laid down. The song will hit radio as soon as "Crush" begins to stall.
"Touch My Hand" takes some drum programming and twists it with pop elements. The song sounds to take place on a dance floor where he notices someone beautiful on the stage surrounded by many people. He only sees her and didn't understand what the song playing meant, but all of a sudden gets it. He wants to touch his hand out to her and doesn't want the music to stop because once it's over he knows he'll never see her again. This is one of the unique songs included on the self-titled debut.
David Archuleta channels a darker vibe on "Desperate." "Desperate" is a cry for help and no one can hear. Hope is gone and solitude overrules the person being sung to. They're just desperate for the light hoping to see it soon. The lyrics are generic however and production isn't as strong as it could be and somehow seems to capture some electric guitars and synth backing sounds.
