Paraprofessionals, particularly those who work one on one with students, should be involved in the students IEP meetings. The involvement of paraprofessionals would benefit the students because paraprofessionals work so closely with them that they could provide valuable feedback.Who can be involved in the IEP(individualized education program)?

They are the students parents, regular classroom teacher, special education teacher, an individual who can interpret what the child evaluation means, the person who represents the school system, and any individual with the knowledge or special expertise about that child. These are some of the professionals who could be at the meeting, paraprofessionals, occupational or physical therapists, psychologists and speech and language pathologists and of course the student if necessary. All of these professionals play a very important part in the student's IEP process to ensure the best education and services that the child need

The role of a paraprofessional is very important working in special education. There are many responsibilities that they have on a day to day basis. When a student has an IEP plan paraprofessionals have to carry that out. They have to use strategies and modifications to help that child succeed in their learning environment. There are a lot of charts to fill out and paper work, so the case managers can keep track of the child's progress. They are responsible for that child's safety through out the day. Paraprofessionals have to monitor their students' behavior, keep them focused and deal with hygiene issues if children can not help themselves. If there is a problem that comes up, they are to report it to the child's case manager. They also have very close contact
