Shreveport is an interesting change from the prairie setting and urban bustle of Dallas. At the Texas/Louisiana border, it is also on the Red River, where riverboat gambling has become a major industry. It's also just 189 miles from the D/FW airport, so lots of Dallas citizens come to play and explore here. If you have never stayed at a casino, it is really something. Noise, noise, noise would be my main characterization. Casinos are fast-paced, and busy and bustling with gambling activity. Now, while this would not be an ideal short vacation for a couple wanting a quiet weekend getaway, there are some advantages.

For one thing, the casinos offer incredible deals on real gourmet feasting. I'm talking about lobster, shrimp and T-bones sizzling rare. Drinks are sometimes complimentary and very good. You can stay at the casino hotels for another great deal. They are trying to draw people in and the managers give all sorts of price discounts and special deals.
