How to Get Tickets to Go Up the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
If you go to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, you shouldn't miss going up the Petronas Towers. Formerly, the tallest building in the world, it is still in the top three (currently behind Taipei 101 Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center). This however is likely to change as other buildings now being built will surpass the height of all three buildings in the next couple of years. Still, the Petronas Twin Towers are amazing and the view from the bridge halfway up the towers is phenomenal. But how do you get tickets to go up there?
Unlike at some of the world's other tall buildings where tickets can be expensive, tickets to go up the Petronas Towers are actually free. You can obtain tickets every day at Suria KLCC Mall, which is the mall that is at the base of the Petronas Towers. There is, however, always a large line for tickets and only a certain number of tickets are given out every day (around 1,800 tickets per day). So there are things you need to know in order to get the tickets.
First of all, unless you work in the Petronas Towers or have connections with some business there, it is not possible to go up to the top of the towers. The Petronas Towers tickets give you access to a towers tour, which normally takes about 30 minutes. The tour ends on the sky bridge, which is the bridge you can see that runs between the two tours. The sky bridge is on the 41st floor of the Petronas Towers, so this is as high as you are allowed to go.
The Petronas Towers sky bridge tours start every 30 minutes. To get free tickets, though, you must arrive at the Suria KLCC Mall as soon as it opens at 9am. When you arrive at the mall (the best way to get there is to come via underground train from KL Central Station), go immediately to the middle of the mall. You will know you are in the middle as you will be in a very large circular area and, if you look up, you will be able to see every floor right up to the glass and metal ceiling. From here, go to the right hand side behind the elevators, and you will see signs that will direct you to the place to get Petronas Towers tickets. There is a small escalator near another set of elevators, and you will need to take this escalator down.
