Limewire is probably the most popular music download system. The real question is, is Limewire safe and legal? It really depends on who is using it.

Limewire is probably the most safe music download program available. It is by far the hardest to be caught while using. However, it is still possible. Most people that use Limewire don't know that they are uploading any illegal music that they have downloaded. This is because as soon as music is downloaded, it is put into a "shared folder." This music is immediately available to other Limewire users the minute it is fully downloaded whenever the host is running Limewire. Users that know how the program works, however, are only "leechers." As soon as the file is done downloading, these users will move the file from the shared folder into a safer location of their choosing. This way, Limewire cannot find any files to upload. Since it is commonly believed that the RIAA catches uploaders much more than downloaders, this supposedly makes Limewire safer. This actually has a certain bit of truth to it, as it is much easier to catch a thief after they redistribute stolen goods than when they are actually obtaining it. Also, there are other methods of protecting yourself when committing the illegalities. There are certain programs which will block known IP addresses from accessing your computer so that you cannot be caught. But rest assured, that if you commit the illegality, there is always a chance of being caught.

ok here's a clear explanation: Limewire is NOT illegal. You can download music from Limewire and listen to it. But its illegal to put the music you downloaded from Limewire on a c.d. and give it to someone else. Its also illegal to send the songs you downloaded from Limewire to anyone in any way. Comprendo???

dang, we pay a lot of money for the internet bill, isn't that a lot like paying for the music we download??? the internet provides it, we pay for it, how is downloading limewire against the law? and yes, I also think that paying close to 20 bucks for a cd for one song is robbery. unless its 2pac or 50 cent or bone thugs, then its worth it.

I never said that limewire wasn't the same thing as recording a song on the radio. Recording a song on the radio is legal, even though it is pretty much the same thing. Giving music to anyone who didn't pay for the original copy is illegal. For those of you who say limewire is legal, just look at the dozens of lawsuits that the RIAA is putting on people. The odds are not very good for getting caught, but it does happen. I also never said it was legal...I said it was legal for NONCOPYRIGHTED music. And yes, I know it is a load of crap, but I don't make the laws.

There has been alot of say about the use of limewire but i find it is not illigal. I agree with Theif Because today we have lots of recording tools and we could just record music of the radio and that is not illigal, is it?????? and if it was illigal then why would they still have it avalible to download?????????????????????????????????????

it is Leagal and the people that say it's illeagal are all retards b/c it's only if you sell the songs on a c-d or distribute them for illeagal purpuses .. eat that! lol

So what is the actual chance that u could get caught usin this....i dont want to go to a federal prison for 30 years or pay a multi million dollar fine over this. They call downloading a song stealing but paying 15 bucks for a cd when ur just gonna listen to 1 song is robbery!

This is silly. I can listen to the radio with any song playing and even record the radio and make my own CD if I want to. Why isn't radio illegal? Limewire is file sharing. Music is a file. If I want to share my music and show good will toward men, why can't I? If I bought the CD, why can't I share it with whom ever I choose? I'm not selling it to them! If you ask me, these diva entertainers are just bummed that they can't make as much for their over priced albums and snort the profits up their nose anymore.
