A reversal of fortune once removed has resulted in infant Yuki Lin born January 1st at midnight to receive the prize she originally won as the first infant born after the stroke of midnight. Associated Press is reporting that due to an outcry against the results of The First Baby Sweepstakes held by Toys "R" Us, the original winner a Chinese-American citizen, little Yuki Lin born on January 1st, 2007 will in fact receive the $25,000.00 United Savings Bond initially intended for the winner of the sweepstakes. Yuki Lin won as a result of being the first baby born in New York after midnight on New Years Day January 1st, 2007. There had been previous discussions about the prize being forfeited based on an immigration debate surrounding her parents. It is reported her mother is not a United States resident. After much outcry in the Chinese community, and a stream of emails on a popular web site of the Chinese-language newspaper The World Journal, Toys "R" Us not only reversed the decision, but decided to award the other two babies born at the same time (though Yuki broke the tie) $25,000.00 US Savings Bonds as well.

A spokesperson for the Toys "R" Us offered their apologies regarding the controversy surrounding the outcome of The First Baby Sweepstakes contest, citing they loved all babies and wanted to help in preparing them for their future. The First Baby Sweepstakes was intended to award the first baby born at the stroke of midnight a $25,000.00 US Savings Bond to assist in his or her education. Yuki Lin was the first born at New York Downtown Hospital, though two other babies were born in Brooklyn Hospitals around the same time. An investigation by hospital officials deemed Yuki Lin the winner of The First Baby Sweepstakes. Once disqualified the original prize went to the runner up born in Gainesville Georgia. It is reported the third baby in the running was born to a couple from El Salvador that resides in Bay Shore New York.
