Awhile back I took a lot of flack for an article I wrote regarding last year's U.S. immigrant strike. In the article, I stated that the strike was, in fact, a terrorist attack on our economy. Try as they might, no one could convince me that the economical standstill did not reek terrorism. Since that time, I have become extremely interested in public opinion on matters regarding illegal immigrants. The most recent "uprising" involved a contest held by Toys "R" Us.

The well-known Toys "R" Us catalog was something I thought could never be tainted, a real symbol of my childhood. Now I want nothing to do with Geoffrey the Giraffe, or any other part of the company. Recently, they had a "First Baby of the Year Sweepstakes," in which the first 3 babies born on New Year's Day received a $25,000 savings bond. The contest rules clearly stated that for any baby to be eligible, their mother had to be a U.S. Citizen. One of the names drawn was that of Yuki Lin, the beautiful new daughter of Yan Zhu Liu. Coincidentally enough, the mother was not a U.S. Citizen. I plan on boycotting the company from here on out, and if you think this was wrong, encourage you to do the same..

Typically, in any contest, eligibility rules must be followed. Initially, Toys "R" Us did follow their own rules, refusing to award Ms. Liu, due to her lack of citizenship. In doing so, they not only remained committed to their policy, but their decision also supported U.S. Law. Then came the protesters: many Chinese-Americans, the Asian American Business Development Center, and even the New York Times, among others. They claimed that Toys "R" Us' actions were an injustice, even going so far as to claim that the issue had to do with "second-class" citizenship issues! What? How about "no-class" citizenship issues, as in the mother isn't a citizen. She should be deported. Instead, people would have you believe that she is a "victim."

@Jessica - I don't care what their life is like. What I care about is that they are leeching off of a system that you and I pay for with our tax dollars. The number is astounding that is used on illegal immigrants. I believe it was something like $21.6 BILLION dollars in 2001. I don't feel comfortable with even $1.

Oh, Minus factor, don't you know that illegal immigrants participate in ours laws at their convenience and will? They don't need no stinking rules!

Thanks Robert, I appreciate it!

I meant to add one additional thing to a comment made on this article by Andrew Berry: Don't be fooled by so much media hype. We are NOT dependant on illegal immigrants. There are an estimated 12 million of them I believe, and there are at least 9 million people who are not employed. That actually sounds to me like there are a lot of jobs being taken by them that our citizens need. The media and some politicians would have you believe that they are a necessity, but just because *someone* is doing a job, doesn't mean another person couldn't do it.

What we need to do is go to that third world hole called Mexico and do what they are doing to us. We must allow our children to be born in that hole as well.

Spunky the Gamer - Thanks for the input

D. Armenta - It doesn't matter if she was in the process, as the contest was only for LEGAL residents. If they will bend that rule, then how about this. My daughter was born 5 months too early, but maybe she should get the prize, since we're bending rules and all.

Heather brought up a good question: was the lady registered and in the process of getting her citizenship? It takes a LOOOONG time for some these days. I'd like to know; that will be the deciding factor for me.

Heather- I agree, that is the beauty of this country, we can disagree. As far as illegal immigrants paying taxes, while some may, with STOLEN SSNs, most are paid under the table.

Wow! Quite an opinionated article; but definitely not racist by any means.

Great article. Speaking out agaist illegal immigration doesn't make you a racist.

We're not as dependant as you might thinks, but convincing people of that is a great way to make their legalization go a lot smoother. The are approximately 12 million illegals in this country, and while that saounds like a lot, it is nowhere nearenough to cause dependancy. Anyway, thanks for you comment, I really appreciate it.

I cant stand the idea of an illegal immigrant winning such a contest. If there is such obvious guidelines to winning such as being a U.S. citizen, then they should stick to the rules. Everyone needs money for their child, that's obvious. But what about ther 4th person? Maybe they came here legally and could have used the money, didnt they actually win? I think so. I truly wish for deportation, but its too bad we have become dependent on these illegals.

First off, we have very similar upbringings, I was home schooled as well, my family immigrated here (I was born here though), but you are wrong on one thing. Immigration laws won't become more lenient due to citizens having less children, far from it. They will become more lenient because it is a GREAT way for some Democrat to get votes. In other words, all of those immigrants will vote for the guy that let them stay here. I do have a much easier answer to all of this. If we just used the Fair Tax system, in which there is NO income tax, but rather a higher sales tax, then everyone would be paying taxes, and this wouldn't be as much of an issue.
