1. Raise your deductible - Raising the deductible is probably the best way for you to save on home insurance. When raising your deductible though you should make sure you can afford to pay the higher deductible if something should happen to your home. It is also better to raise your deductible sine a larger one can keep you from using your home insurance for smaller claims. Many insurance companies now add a charge for every claim, and the charge depends on how many claims you make.
2. Make your home safer - By making your home safer it shows the insurance company that your home is less likely to be broken into, therefore they will give you a less expensive policy since you are not as much of a risk. One way to make your home safer is to install a home security system. Most insurance carriers will give you a discount if your home has a home security system. The systems that notify the police and fire departments directly are the ones that will give you the biggest discounts. Having dead-bolt locks on your doors will give you a discount on home insurance and they are not very expensive to install. Generally the discount is only given when all the doors in the house have a dead-bolt lock. Another safety instrument that can give you a discount is having smoke alarms in your home.
3. Have a non-smoking household - smokers cause many accidents when they accidentally set fire to the home. A non-smoking household is less at risk to catch fire and therefore you will receive a discount for your home insurance. This also applies for letting others smoke in the house as well as nobody in the house can be a smoker.
