ESPN's Chris Mortenson has reported that Louisiana State University quarterback JaMarcus Russell will skip his senior year and enter the NFL draft. The announcement comes after Russell and the rest of the Tigers dominated Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, winning 41-14 last Wednsday. In that game Russell passed for a career high 332 yards and two touchdowns. His season numbers were 3129 yards, 28 touchdowns to eight interceptions, and a passer efficiency rating of 167, the third best in the NCAA this year. His career numbers for LSU are 6,525 passing yards and 52 touchdowns, all coming in two years as a starter.

Although Mortenson has reported that Russell will enter the draft, his family has not stated whether or not Tussell will enter the draft. He has discussed his plans with his family, and his mother said "Our family all talked about it with JaMarcus," "But we haven't made a decision, and JaMarcus wants to talk about it with his coach before he decides. Then he's going to have a press conference Wednesday at the school." One professional NFL scout, Chris Landry said, "I think Russell's gone, I know he has not been focusing on school, and they've had to make him go to class." Russell plans on talking to LSU head coach, Les Miles, before his press conference, where according to ESPN's Chris Mortenson, he will formally state his intention to enter the NFL Draft this spring.
