My hometown of Grand Haven is a paradise for romance, set on glorious Lake Michigan and featuring fabulous dining venues! But all these venues feature on unavoidable setback; they cost the earth! And many budding or even fully blossomed romances just don't have the spare funds.

I am going to propose an alternative that will be just as romantic if not more so! And it will not put you into financial ruin! It's ideal for college students, newlyweds, kids under 21 and anyone who needs a romantic date and still have funds leftover!

First, you set a time and tell your beloved to 'dress up'. Then, you choose a spot in your home, apartment or even outside that is attractive ( a park, a beach, a wooded area). If you choose outdoors, you'll have to consider the weather. Your dinner will have to be in a picnic basket!

If you choose an indoor area, you then recreate a formal dining area. Just a simple table and two chairs is sufficient! Design an elegant dining area with pieces of fabric or nice tablecloths, draped over the table and chairs if necessary. Lace, satin, or lame work nicely. Get a string of holiday lights in one color like red, pink, purple or blue.
Hang them around the table on the ceiling. They are lightweight and can be taped up.

Place a mirror in the center of the table. Scatter some sequins, ribbon, faux gems, metallic confetti in the center for effect. Put a pretty plant or floral arrangement in the center. Some attractive inexpensive plants include ivy ( which represents fidelity and devotion), African violets (which represent tenderness), jade (which represents strength and courage)a baby rose bush (which represents romantic love) or a chrysanthemum (which represents beauty and grace).

You can purchase or design a candle and holder arrangement also. You can find supplies very inexpensively and make your own from items from fabric bargain rooms or discount stores. Choose a tall pillar candle with a nice color and fragrance. Choose a candle holder that reminds you of your special someone. Try to find one with things she likes on it. I have found some very attractive pieces at discount and dollar stores.
