"Friends With Money" focuses on four female friends, three of who are married and one that is still looking. Jennifer Aniston plays the role of Olivia, the only single among the friends. A former teacher who discovered that it just wasn't her calling, Olivia is reduced to working as a maid; a fate that she absolutely abhors, even though she would never admit it to her friends. She is so disgusted with her life that she smokes pot at every chance and even continues to stalk an old lover. She is also obsessed with expensive cosmetics that she really can't afford and spends most of the film begging, borrowing, and stealing them.

Frances McDormand plays the role of Jane, a wildly popular clothing designer who certainly doesn't look like one. She has stopped washing her hair and is suddenly not afraid of public outbursts that decry the injustices of the world like someone stealing your parking place or cutting in front of you in line. Wildly eccentric is the best way to describe her because she doesn't even consider that the kind, loving man (played by Simon McBurney) she is married to just might be gay. One would think that all the men hitting on him throughout the movie might be a clue but Jane remains blithely unaware and the truth is, he genuinely seems to love her.

Joan Cusack plays Franny, a multimillionaire who appears to have the perfect life with her husband (Greg Germann of Ally McBeal fame) and kids. Franny is torn with regard to her fortune, however. She loathes that her husband spends outrageous sums of money on shoes for the growing feet of their children. But she has no problem dropping large sums of money for every single charity party that comes up. Plus, she is none too excited about loaning Olivia the $1800 she wants to borrow for classes so that she can improve her life.
