Jackson, Mississippi is a good location for people wanting a weekend vacation because it's within driving distance to all sorts of different areas, from lakes, to the coast, to the hills to the east, you have lots of options when taking a weekend off. While the Delta lies to the west with its flat rows of cotton and soybeans by the Mississippi River, the central part of the state is slightly elevated, and to the south, of course, you have access to the coastal region with towns like Bay St. Louis, Pass Christian, and Pensacola.

If you've never been to a bed and breakfast, you're in for a real treat. Many people meet other people there and go back together for reunions. The atmosphere is homey since they really are people's homes! One of my favorites close to Jackson and just a short distance away is Stained Glass Manor, Oak Hall, in Vicksburg. I love the Vicksburg area with its river restaurants and all the history. Prices range from $85 to $124 in the main house. Some rooms have fireplaces, and all are very large. Each has its own distinct character and all are named for the first U.S. Presidents. http://www.vickbnb.com/
While in Vicksburg there are tours you can take and lots of history to absorb. Vicksburg held off the Yankee soldiers by digging into the bluffs and they finally had to surrender only because of impending starvation. A visit here would acquaint any Mississippian with the truly unbelievable heritage of this wonderful state. Vicksburg has a lot of plantation roots and is very much like many towns in Louisiana. As such it partook in the Creole culture which flourished around it. So people who love the New Orleans "flavor" will really take to this town.
