Have you ever thought about who gets Autopsies and who doesn't? If you suddenly died and you weren't an organ donor would your organs still be harvested? Both Autopsies and Organ Donation are disturbing images maybe because they have to do with death. We humans don't like to think about death, and yet millions of animals get slaughtered for food every day. I'm sure the animals know what's fixing to happen to them. They get sliced and diced while they are still alive. Innocent lambs hang upside down by their hooves, awaiting execution, only to get their throat slit moments later. Autopsies are similar, but people are supposed to already be dead before the body gets sliced up and turned inside out. I always opposed Biology for its cruel performance of dissecting creatures needlessly in the prime of their life. I suspect human's fear Autopsies because the body could be suspended, paralyzed from movement, somehow while they are still alive.

Laws vary in each state about the determination of who gets Autopsied. Ordinarily, if you're under forty, in good health and drop dead you'll be receiving an Autopsy. Likewise, all infant fatalities will get one to make sure no foul play was involved. Some Coroners talk with police detectives and visually do a body check for cause of death instead of performing an Autopsy. The deceased next of kin can allow a hospital to do an Autopsy if the state law doesn't require one. You don't have to say yes if a hospital asks to do an Autopsy the state doesn't require. If the hospital does an Autopsy anyway, hiring a Lawyer to sue may be the next action you wish to take.

A lot of people feel that death without passing on the gift of life to others in need is a waste. That's why Drivers Licenses have left you an option to be an Organ Donor. Well, that and there's a big need for them. There are never enough organs to be divvied up among patients on a transplant list. I guess you could say the Drivers License scheme is a statewide way to beg for organs. You can stipulate Organ Donation in a will. Organ Donor Cards are also available.

Takeaways
  • Technically brain death in a hospital makes you a candidate for Organ Donation.
  • Your face can be donated for transplantation.
  • You can't donate Organs if you're sick with HIV or other deadly infections.
Did You Know?
Donating one Organ is your option the rest will be buried with your body.
