Jehovah Witness Suicide

Authors note: If you or someone you love is contemplating suicide please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifelineat:1-800-273-TALK (8255). Teenagers can call the Covenant House NineLine at: 1-800-999-9999. Cries for help should never be discounted or ignored.

There is a long history of suicides within the Jehovah Witness Watchtower organization. Some experts have estimated the rate of suicides associated with the society to be five to ten times the rate of the general population. The exact number of suicides is impossible to obtain for a
 variety of reasons.

Secular intuitions such as hospitals and police departments do not keep track of the religious organizations of the deceased. If institutions began to keep such records they would be accused of religious persecution. The American Psychiatric Association has moved towards a biological model of mental health. This causes non-biological causes of suicide to be discounted or ignored. The totalitarian Jehovah Witness Watchtower society knows of many suicides but will not admit guilt. The society has a long history of covering up damaging information. Evidence of the well documented child sexual assault cover up can be seen at this website: www.silentlambs.org/ Those that dare speak against the organization (Such as myself, Christian Peper) are harassed and denigrated by the cult.

The question must be asked: Why do Jehovah Witness members commit suicide at a rate far exceeding the general population? There are many contributing factors to Watchtower society suicide.

I know a lot of witnesses that committed suicide and murder mostly suicide. They seem to be a oppressed people, a lot of them on anti-depressants, mental problems and fake ass smiles to sell you their mindsets so you can be trapped and fake like them. Bored at all those meetings, learning the same stuff year after year like the dark ages and occasional new light. Yall need to stop yall scare me. Thee only thing keeping things from be another JOHANESBURG SOUTH AFRICA is perhaps the watchtower business is still lucrative in the poor underdeveloped uneducated places. Man look out if the elders brothers start talking bout' drinking the wine next memorial.

Until 7 years ago I was a JW,I am 35 now so it was for most of my life. There have been at least 3 people in my life that have committed suicide because of leaving the religion. They were not able to live with themselves because of the feelings of shame, guilt and rejection. The article I just read made me so angry. NO ONE kills themselves because it is the 'easy' thing to do because as a default they will be resurrected. Ridiculous, disgusting, and overwhelmingly egotistical that anyone would even suggest an idea so idiotic. Try feeling like everything you're doing is for nothing because you are dead in god's eyes and that you have betrayed everything that you have dedicated yourself to. That you are now to be shunned and marked as 'bad' and that god will no longer hear your prayers because of the sinful human errors you have made. Easy to come to terms with that, easy to live in a situation like that, easy to know that if you do kill yourself you really don't have a chance. None of any

One thing not mentioned in this article (that I could find) is that suicide is considered murder in the JW religion. Therefore, if you off yourself, your chances of being resurrected are nil, unless you are considered to suffer from depression enough to excuse the sin of murder. Suicides are rampant for the simple fact that JW members who no longer believe in the JW doctrins see no other way out. A life inside filled with conforming and every last drop of your individuality and free thinking squished out or a life outside where you will lose every friend you ever had in the sect and possibly also be shunned by your own family. Fortunately, I got out with my life. This article is over-dramatizing the JW suicides when in reality it is very simple.

I was a JW for ever, and yes I tried suicide once because of the religion being so difficult to please everybody and have a hypocritical elder for a father. Yes, I am happily disfellowshiped, thank GOD! Glory to God!Yea at 14 my hair fell out in the front and as a female that was so humiliating. I went to the doctor with my mom and the doctor asked me was I under any stress as I looked at her, I said of course not. Once you kill the "mommy in your mind" people can live again. Stay Away From this CULT, I don't care if my family never speaks to me again I HAVE PEACE!

Listen you dumbfuck, your religion isn't the most criticized religion on earth. It's barely a speck in the consciousness of most people. In fact, most people on earth confuse you with the Latter Day Saints. Your religion doesn't have the truth, its people aren't truly happy and quite frankly, many want out of that religion but are afraid to lose their friends. I'm glad to have gotten out of that religion. Even though I'm severely depressed (Most, if not all the reason of why I'm severely depressed is due to family members shunning me for not being a member of their religion), I can say the one bright spot in my life is knowing I'm free of that totalitarian cult.

I have dated a JW for almost two years. I met her we went out, and a few dates later we slepted with each other. We have been sleeping with each other for awhile until all of a sudden she feels that what we are doing is wrong. Then she will still lay with me but not for sex but go to bed sex. She sends nakes pictures of herself to each "wordly" boyfriend she had. I really feel that she is crying for help to get out and I am her only solution. She enjoys hanging around wordly people but i think she is afraid of losing her parents. What should I do? I am studying and I am almost batize but to be honest with you all, i think the only thing i will do with this is write a book on hyprocrites. They all judge, including my girlfriend, but fail to look at their own misgivings. A brother wants told me that the biggest problem with JW's is that they feel they need to judge everybody but not themselves. I am afraid that one day she is going to do something, she is already on a path of self destru

I have to agree with you, but what make me very mad is that the family they grew up with are just throw aways not real family, because they have a real family now and we hardly get to see the kids because my sister won't let them. Then get this she put her own dauther out on the streets because she didn't want anything to do with the JW anymore and I can tell my niece is so happy that she is not in that cult., I wish my nephew and other niece would leave but their mom brain wash them to much and they don't want to leave. One more thing my nephew is really good in any sports and want to play but he can't because his mom has him brain wash that he no good, I seen this kid play he can go to any college on a sports scholarships but mom is always in the way & dad has nothing to say about it because that not his kid it's her kid. The dad isn't a JV he is a different Religion that does holidays. I love this one they don't lie, well my sister lie all the time. I think all JV are screw up.

My name is charlotte and i came into the JW religion when i was 8 and left when i was 14. it took me a couple of years to finally forgive myself and realize not eveything was my fault that happend in that cult. they play major mind games there. i got caught holding hands with a boy and parents called the elders of my church to my house to give me a great big speech. they then took away my shoes and didnt let me go to school. when you are in that cult you cant have friends outside the religion. i cut myself for years until finally i felt better about myself. i now live in a foster home because they would not let me leave the house so i cut my wrist in order to get out. as drastic as that is im glad i did it. i have new parents now and i love them to death. i always thought that people outside the religion were "worldly"as they called in and bad people. my eyes are now open. please stay away from the Jehovahs Wittnesses. they may seem nice and a good religion but it is really really min

Someone said you can't fool anyone who is smart, that's simply, not true. There are 96 ways of defining intelligence with only 29 relative to all of academia. The average IQ of a JW is higher then the common bell curve for the one simple fact that the cult appeal is to predisposition of people who are generally more studious than normal. You don't limit the ability to fool people to those who are stupid. Instead realize that hypnotism is a real thing that can happen to people. It has the stage show fast form that doctors and performers do and it has the slow drip form. The slow for is a bible study. In addition you need to be surrounded to other conditioned people in order to make is easy to accept the delusional beliefs. The JWs are a social, mental and spiritual criminal organization that the courts cannot deal with because they have no skill, interest or understanding. Social destruction, mental manipulation, spiritual dis-empowerment are its fruits.

It's a damn cult. Everyone knows it. I knows JW's personally... Im related to them. It's such a depressing "religion". There is no freedom in it at all, no room for your own idenity. There's too many ridiculous rules and things you're forbidden to do. It's sad that people even follow it. I mean, who would want to be part of that? Who would want to give up celebrating holidays and birthdays and all that fun stuff??? You can't do anything "normal" if you're a JW. It's no wonder why so many of them want to commit suicide. B/c it's so strict, suffocating, if you will. I know I would be miserable if I was one. They need to realize that god isn't going to strike them down if they want to do something, God is loving, not mean.
