Making a Working "Harry Potter" Type Wand

Real Magic for the Real World

We are all aware, I am sure, that there is a great difference between Hollywood magic and the real thing. Still, it can be fun to blend them together sometimes. While the wands used in the movies offer some awesome
special effects especially J.K. Rawling's "Harry Potter" series, the real magics in our world tend to deal more with influences and aspecting. It may not be as colorful as the cinematic representations but our real world powers are just as strong.

Still, if you want to do wand work, and always thought you wished it WAS that easy, it is possible to make yourself a functional "Harry Potter" style magic wand. To do this properly you will have to make it yourself. This is well within the traditions of craft lore for acquiring your magical talismans and tools.

To make this magical talisman, you begin by acquiring a wooden chopstick of your choice. This can be as simple and unadorned as you want or highly ornamented. The important thing is that it be made of wood.

You will begin by drilling a hole into the base of the stick. It does not have to be very deep, a small drill bit and about an inch or so in depth is plenty. Take you time and be careful not to split the stick or drill through the side as you create the chamber for your wand's core element.

Now comes the interesting part of what will make this a functional wand in real magic. Gather a small bit of your hair and maybe a nail clipping from yourself. Cut up as fine as possible and put in a small plastic bag. Add to this a well-clipped bit of sage leaves and any other sacred herbs that work well for you.

As a further option you may want to crush a bit of stone or other mineral to a powder and add it to your clippings and herbs. Mix these until they are uniformly blended. Such resins as Frankincense and Myrrh added has shown a purifying effect for those who choose the path of white magic.
