Bombs explode in the early morning. 100+ children lie around the entrance to their school, ripped and torn to pieces. Many of them are unrecognizable. But I know that coat and that lunch box. There lies my child.

This is a nightmare I have on occasion. I seem to have it much more frequently when I hear people on the news talk about how we have to get out of Iraq as soon as possible, yet offer no plan of action to do so. I listen very closely to hear their plans. How will we do it? How will we make sure the terrorists do not follow us back to the U.S.? I hear no answers, only rhetoric.

Moments later, the television screen is full of news from Israel. Another homicide bombing has taken place killing innocent people and maiming others for the rest of their lives. A cold seed of dread begins to grow in my stomach. Will the next clip of a homicide bombing be in a neighborhood I recognize? A neighborhood I grew up in, perhaps? A neighborhood right here in America?

Can we withdraw from Iraq without first making certain that everything is settled there? If we do, will the terrorists not follow us back to the U.S. and change the face of our country forever? Oh wait, they have already done that. On September 11th, 2001, terrorists flew commercial airliners into the World Trade Center in New York and irrevocably changed the face of our country while also leaving thousands of families bereft of their sons, daughters, wives and husbands. It happened once. It can happen again. However, it is our chief duty to make sure a tragedy, like 9/11, never happens again.

We Must Win!

Takeaways
  • We cannot simply leave Iraq and hope for the best. The terrorists will never leave us alone.
  • We cannot leave without winning the War on Terror else we will bring that war to our own neighborhoods
  • September 11th, 2001 was only a taste of what will happen in the U.S. if we hastily withdraw from the war in Iraq.
Did You Know?
Our soliders morale is being destroyed by people who constantly degrade their country and their government.

I agree we must stay there until the country is more stable. An immediate withdrawal would plunge that country into civil war. Still, much like Korea we will be in Iraq 50 years.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my article and comment. It really means a lot to me. Thanks for the debate and the support.

Michelle, I totally agree with your comments and applaud your willingness to expose yourself to ridicule from the liberal group of protestors. This war did not start after President Bush took office. It started many years ago. If Clinton had done his job while in office, instead of devoting all his time to covering up his secret indiscretions, we might never have experienced 911. Furthermore, these people who think we should just give more money and love to the same terrorists who wish to kill us, are wrong. They do not have the same values we have. THEY INTEND TO KILL YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN, folks. Just talk to a few of the servicemen who are there seeing firsthand what is going on. They know the support given the terrorists by some of the citizens of Iraq. They are there presently rooting out same. Most of the liberal newspapers and television reporters have done more damage to our country than any one president could ever do.

Big, big, BIG controversy here.

Wow-- way to spark controversy, Michelle! With many opposing opinions, you managed to handle them all gracefully. I agree that it is very demoralizing to serve ones' country--voluntarily or involuntarily--and be castigated by ones' own countrymen. The soldiers in WWII weren't treated this way. As for the cause of this war, I think the truth lies somewhere in between..

:-) Nothing sucks more than a lib with an electrolux...

Then why have they attacked us, jeff? was 9/11 about oil? This whole "war for oil" argument is purely nonsense. Honestly I didn't think folks still actually believed that. The fact is your hatred for Bush is plain goofy. The lib hero Bill Clinton attacked Iraq in 1998 and went on national TV to tell us it was because Saddam had: 1)weapons of mass destruction, 2)he was a threat to the US and her allies, 3)he would use WMD's again, 4)Diplomacy had failed and Iraq "abused it's final chance." Billy continued to promise a "long-term battle" the "removal of Saddam" and a "new Iraqi government." If Clinton would have finished what HE PROMISED to do, we wouldn't be in this mess. The fact is that this was a job that needed to be done to protect America and Bush is doing it despite self-absorbed folks like you who desire failure simply so you can say you were right and feel good about yourself. I am curious, what does Bush personally have to gain here?

Musall, I get the idea that they want to kill us for the way we live from history more than anything. You make some good points though. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

And Michelle, one more point-you are falling for the old neo-con line when you assume that they want to attack us "because of the way we live" rest assured, if there wasn't oil under that sand, we wouldn't be anywhere near there, and they wouldn't care less what we were doing here...

Michelle, I stick by my statement. It is cowardly, and it is because of oil. There were no terrorist cells in Iraq, and there was no danger from Saddam. He was fully contained. He couldn't even so much as fly a helicopter from north to south without losing it. Iraq was "picked" because bush wanted to go there. If we wanted to fight terrorism where it is at, we would not be vritually ignoring Afghanistan and cells in Pakistan. And Doyle, it takes alot more "spine" to try to stand up for what is right then to blindly bleat approval of the president with the other sheep. And I didn't "turn" I never supported this "war", although I strongly supported actions in Afghanistan..

I agree that nobody wants to go to war. None of us want that. But when it comes down to dying at home or on the battle field, I prefer that the war be fought on the battle field. The war is then fought with people who choose to fight the war; trained soldiers. I don't want to see inexperienced civilians tossed in the middle of this to die. I know that some are already involved. I hate it. Nobody wants that either. But all we can do is try to focus on one area everyone knows is the "war zone". I'm not an idealogue, I just want my country and her people to live. I love my country and all her people. We shouldn't have to die just because someone doesn't like the way we live.

(Because anti-war) ...is the "right" way they think there is no other reason to think any opposing thoughts. I sort of see that, but I like you sort of see something else too. We will fight this...or, we will fight this. Which way is up to us. I will be leaving on that note...I feel how hard you are working here, Michelle. Work less and look and listen more. The only conflict here is the one that assaults truth by changing times and events. Muslim has been at war with us for 30 years and the world has seen about 2 attacks per day until now. That's a lot of war and killing. We have only fought back now for about four years.

Micchelle, the premise that we chose Iraq is a fundamental of this strictly academic controversy. Iraq had a poopulation base that in terms of the Middle East Conditions wanted us there to oust Saddam. YThat is what made Iraq "ground zero". Remember as the anti-war crowd (which is an oxy moron in that all of us are anti-war if we are sane) works feverishly to disturb the roots of truth that they have an agenda too. They see this too as a "religion war", they see it as a war of opportunity to shake the leaves from the tree of the founding principals of the US. This to them is an opportunity to break the Christian foothold on US ideology and thusly open wide the doors of humanistic thinking. Cool for them...who cares? God is more personal to most of us than that. They feel lonely so they want to drag everyone into their little academic world. Some people have educated themselves away from understanding that it is not about the person so much as it is about the people. Because anti-war is

Musall, why I support your right to disagree with me, I can not support your statement that to "say we must fight them there instead of here is cowardly". It isn't cowardice, my friend, it's common sense. You may want to fight a war against terrorists right here in the US, but I don't and I don't know many who do. By the way, we didn't pick Iraq as the place to fight all these terrorists, they picked it because we are doing a pretty good job of keeping them out of the US.

(Musall's there, they) ...kill American Troops. Far more of them than does Bush or the terrorists. That is what you and me meant to say. You said it well, Michelle.
