Victoria's Secret Lawsuit: Sexy Bras Alleged to Cause Rashes, Scarring
Date: November 11, 2008
ABC News that she filed a lawsuit against the popular lingerie company after she developed blisters and her skin became inflamed and itchy from wearing Angels Secret Embrace and Very Sexy Estreme Me Push-Up bras. Her lawyers say they have been contacted by other women who have developed or exhibited problems like hives, rashes, and permanent scarring after wearing Victoria Secret's products.

Ritter told ABC that she felt compelled to bring the problem out into the open. "I had the welts ... very red, hot to the touch, extremely inflamed, blistery. It itched profusely."

The lawyers bought separate bras of the same type made by Victoria's Secret and maintain that tests have shown that the bras contain formaldehyde. They believe their client may be allergic to formaldehyde as well.

Victoria's Secret spokespeople insist that the chemical preservative is not used in the production of their lingerie and have launched an investigation into the matter. The company also acknowledges that they have received complaints from customers. The company released the statement: "We are sorry that a small number of people have had an issue and we want to help them determine the cause. Customer safety and satisfaction are always our primary concerns and we take seriously any issues our customers may have with our products."

A decision on the status of the lawsuit is not expected for at least six months (May).

Victoria's Secret has been sued before over its products.

Back in June, The Smoking Gun reported that a 52-year-old woman filed a lawsuit over an allegedly defective thong. Macrida Patterson, a Los Angeles resident, claimed that a metallic decorative piece on a "low-rise v-string" thong in Victoria Secret's "Sexy Little Thing" line of products. Patterson filed a new product liability lawsuit.

OMG I have been having the same problems!! I thought I was allergic to detergent but I was only getting blisters in one place and it has been bothering me for years and now this makes sense!! All of my symptoms relate exactly to this! Is there anyway I can help join this law suit or do something to get this taken care of???

My daughter just informed me about the situation with the VS bra. I was left with my mouth wide opened. I have been having this problem for a while. I did ask a sales clerk about a year ago was there anyone complaining about experienciing a rash after wearing the bra. She told me no and I just thought it was me and my sensentative skin again. Since them I have two permanet under my breast and on on my brest I had a cluster of blisters that itched like crazy and no matter what I treated it with it was useless. I dont feel like I'm going crazy now, but i think it has caused a lot of problems in my nervous system. If anyone know anything else about this please, please let me know. God bless all of you who have suffered from this like I have.

I can't believe they have sexist pissants like that who speak to women this way at a woman's lingerie store. The lack of sensitivity for these women alone is enough to root for the people filing suit. As a Public Relations person, I cannot believe that Victoria's Secret would allow such crass and rude customer service to further destroy their business. I haven't shopped at that overpriced store in years, except for sales. I once adored their product, but found similar products at Macys and Mervyns for much less. Now I'm glad I was frugal. My heart goes out to every woman affected by this. I hope you each heal emotionally and physically.

I did too get a rash. I always wash everything before wearing cause you never know where its been. I got a rash on my breast and back, it was itchy and painful. The rash spread all across and on my back. I tried several different creams, none of them worked. I was scare and to top it off, my daughters quinceanera celebration was coming. I wasn't able to wear anything nice and had to purchase a dress that cover all the infected areas. My sister-n-law who lives in Virginia had come for the quinceanera and saw me blisters. She told she too had gotten those. I was embarrassed, but was glad she saw me because she told me what she used. I bought the cream she told me and it worked. I never thought it was connected to the bra, but after all these people talking about it. Now I know it was the bra. So, if anyone has a rash right now try Doctor Burt's herbal defense ointment with Zinc oxide this should clear it. Don't give up you will see and feel the difference.

I had a situation back in June when I wore their bra with the clear halter straps and i got horrible blisters and bruising from wearing it for 5 hours!!! I was in so much pain for about 10 days. I now have a scarr from that bra. I called Victoria Secrets 1800# and they were nasty telling me they have never heard of such a thing and its not there problem. Well I guess now it is isnt since you are all getting sued finally!!!! Why didnt I think of that!? I buy all my bras from Victoria Secret and now I am done with them!!

The same thing happened to me with the Body by Victoria. I thought it was a heat rash (those bras are HOT) and after experimenting with various creams I finally found relief with a cortizone cream. At least I THOUGHT that was was what cured the rash. But it was probably the fact that I stopped wearing those bras (or any bra) for awhile. Now that I think about it, anytime I wear the Body by Victoria bras I'm itchy. Until now I didn't connect the dots.

I have many of victoria secrets bras and I get a rash that iched like crazy, I thought it was from sweating. Now I know that is not the case, I don't have the money to file a law suit but I would like my money back for all the bras that I got from there which is like everyone I own, I will no longer be buying my bras from this company. For as much as these bras cost you would think they were made in the USA...nothing is and we don't have a choice as to what country we want to buy from this is pathetic. What's next our panties???? Glad my food isn't made in other countries..well at least most of it anyway.

I have been dealing with a horrid rash that is destroying my body for 6 weeks now. I have been to the doctor EVERY week. I've had blood work, a biopsy, antibiotics, and prednisone in the past 6 weeks. I am miserable. I have a rash that has spread across both breasts, my whole chest and neck area, my stomach and a couple of spots on my leg. I had purchased 4 new Body By Victoria bra's and washed them all before wearing, but with formaldehyde it doesn't matter! And, about a week after I started wearing them I started to break out. I didn't think anything of it until I saw the news last night. My rash is spreading, but I have been being poisoned by the bra's everyday!!! I am now not able to even wear a bra and I'm on MORE prednisone. The rash is also leaving scars on my body, which is very upsetting. It is even spreading to my back. This is insane. I plan on suing also. I have a friend who just spent $500 on stuff from there and she can't even wear the bra's b/c everytime she puts one on
