The Pros of Living in Houston, Texas

The Advantages of Living in America's Fourth Largest City

19
Houston, Texas was named one of the best places to live because unlike many other American cities, Houston has not been affected by the economic crisis. More jobs are projected in the future in this booming city so it's no wonder people are flocking down south. Houston has something for everyone and is a great place to live for singles, couples, and families. After living in America's fourth largest city for over a year I have made a list of some of the advantages Houston has over the rest of the nation.

Weather

The winters are mild which means you won't have to shovel snow, start your car ten minutes before you intend to leave the house, or buy heavy winter coats. Houston winters are like a beautiful spring day in the northeast - it is ideal weather.

You can wear shorts, T-shirts and sandals most of the year and save a fortune on clothing by not having to buy clothes for each season.

You can enjoy outdoor activities without being too cold.

Housing

Compared to the rest of the country, Houston is relatively affordable. It is not unusual to find a 2,000 square foot home with a yard in the $200,000 range if you buy in the suburbs.

Activities

Houston has a variety of cultural activities including theater, ballet, opera, a zoo, an aquarium, comedy clubs, cinemas, and a variety of museums. There are a plethora of public parks including an arboretum, and plenty of trails for walking, cycling and running.

There are beaches within 60 miles, antique shops, farms, murder mystery dinners, and even a magic show where you can eat and be entertained at the same time.

Transportation

Because there are so many highways it is easy to get around.

Houston has public transportation including buses that run often, and the Metrorail downtown.

There are two major airports within 45 minutes of downtown Houston.

Medical Centers

There are no shortages of medical centers and hospitals. Houston's hospitals are well known and respected in the medical industry, and some of the top cancer treatment centers are in Houston.
