Occasionally, you start to realize that your monthly bills are getting ridiculous, and that if you want to have any money set aside for saving, you're going to have to cut some costs somewhere.

Of course, cutting costs can be tough and annoying, but when you've got to do it, you've got to do it. Here are some easy, common sense ways to keep costs down and start putting money to the side for a rainy day.

Watch the power. Chances are, you're spending a lot more money on electricity than you need to be. Cutting costs by cutting power is easy and just requires some common sense; turn off the lights when you leave a room, turn off the TV when you're not watching it, unplug anything you're not using or turn it off. Not only does electricity conservation cut your costs, but it'll also help the environment out.

Don't Eat Out. Nothing drains your money faster than eating out at restaurants, whether they're nice restaurants or fast food joints. You can cook for much cheaper at home, and you're probably going to get more nutrition out of your meals as well. Find inexpensive, easy to prepare foods, or if you can't figure out anything else, just grab some Lean Cuisines or similar pre-prepared meals from your local grocery store freezer aisle. If you're the type of person that hits McDonald's every other meal, your stomach will thank you for developing some better habits.

Be sure to look at what you're drinking, too. Tea is cheaper for soda and much better for you. It might suck to have to kick soda, juice, and similar high-priced drinks for a while, but it's an easy cost to cut out.

Watch The Gas. Everyone's complaining about high gas prices; well, they're pretty much right. Use less of the stuff and your wallet will start to expand.
