ACT.org has mostly just the basics on ACT information. Now proclaiming itself "America's Most Widely Accepted College Exam", the ACT is apparently the popular choice among students today in the world of college entrance exams. As implied in a previous piece, SAT Scores Released by College Board, it seems that perhaps the SAT is going the way of the dinosaur, headed for an inevitable extinction.

This may be due, at least in part, to perceptions about the two exams-- one being that SAT is more geared towards white males, while the ACT is designed more with everyone else in mind. This reputation has existed for at least the past decade, from my own personal experiences. Regardless of such facts and opinions, it's obviously preferred and growing in popularity, since most colleges today accept or prefer receiving the results to this exam.

The ACT consists of multiple choice tests in the main subjects of English, math, reading, and science, as well as a writing test in which test-takers must present their essay-writing skills. The purpose of the tests are, of course, to determine college readiness or to measure the educational development of the student in gauging if the student is prepared for the college experience. Every college has their own standards as to what may be acceptable in terms of ACT scores.
