American Idol - the Genesis of New Talent

American Idol is a genesis of entertainment for the masses. This show is generating publicity and manufacturing hundreds of stars. Season six started with a blast of viewers tuning in to watch the newest auditions of raw talent. Fox Network reported 56.7 million viewers which is the highest ratings on any network on telecast premiers.

American Idol starts the season with controversy surrounding Paula Abdul. Tuesday, January 15, 2007 Paula Abdul was a guest on the Ellen Degeneres Show. Abdul discussed some problems incurred in a satellite feed to multiple cites. She explained the erratic behavior and insensible responses as a production error. This is not the first time Abdul has been in the center of controversy. She was reported in 2003 to have had an affair with Corey Clark. She remains to hold her head high against the ""potshots"" and reassures the public ""I take my role as a role model seriously.""

Many singing careers began through the exposure of American Idol. Contestants recording Gold selling albums are Bo Bice, Josh Gracin, Clay Aiken, and Kellie Pickler. Platinum recording contestants include Taylor Hicks, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, and Chris Daughtry. Others have done exceptionally well such as Kelly Clarkson with 'Thankful' her first album going double platinum and her second album 'Breakaway' going six times platinum. Season two produced Fantasia Barrino as a double Platinum artist. Five time Platinum artist Carrie Underwood broke into the country mainstream with style.

American Idol propels many peoples' careers, not just the winners. Kimberley Locke, Diana DeGarmo and William Hung have all reported revenues of over two - hundred thousand dollars resulting from offers given because of the publicity received on American Idol. William Hung never made it past the audition stage of the competition.

Season Six has been berated for showing the non potential candidates this year. A popular talk show 'The View compares 'Idol' preseason to a carnival freak show. Even the rejects have a chance at fame.
