Top 10 Favorite Christmas Songs: Traditional Favorites

Top Christmas Tunes

Many of us have fond memories of listening to very much cherished Christmas songs. Some bring back lovely family and friendship memories that will last forever! It is almost Christmas time. Here are my top 10 favorite Christmas songs.

My number one top 10 favorite Christmas song is "Jingle Bells" written by James Lord Pierpont way back in 1822. This popular Christmas song is also known as "One Horse Open Sleigh" and it is one of many children's all time top 10 favorite Christmas songs! When I was young and my family
would all pile into the car on Christmas morning to go take a drive to a nearby relative's house, we would all sing this song, in unison, on the way there. We would all crack up laughing because we would try to out sing each other very loudly. None of us could carry a tune, though we certainly tried. Hearing this Christmas song always makes me smile.

My second choice for top 10 favorite Christmas songs is "Silver Bells" and this song certainly stuck in my head, as a child and it has remained there ever since! This song is a Christmas classic by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. Bob Hope sang this song, along with Marilyn Maxwell in the movie "The Lemon Drop Kid" and it was inspired by Salvation Army workers ringing bells at Christmas time. When I hear this song, it always reminds me that Christmas is coming very soon!

My third choice for top 10 favorite Christmas songs is "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" written by Charles Wesley way back in 1739! This song always gave me a glad and happy feeling as a child and it still does so! This song spreads the message of joy and peace in a very jolly way. Hearing it makes me listen and appreciate the true spirit of Christmas.

My fourth choice for top 10 favorite Christmas songs is "White Christmas" written by Irving Berlin in 1942. This classic and now traditional Christmas tune was made famous by Bing Crosby. Living in the South, I never got to see a white Christmas. This song was special to me because, of course, children want snow to play in on Christmas day! Every year we would dream of a white Christmas. This song was a favorite!

I love these too. For some reason I've always loved "I'll be Home for Christmas." It might be because I so often wasn't because of the military.
