NBC's Christmas in Rockefeller Center and Why Their Musical Guests Return Often

Add "American Idol" David Cook to that improved list who will also be on the show this year. If he can keep his sanity with an "AI" contract for the next seven or eight years, he'll be one of the rare rockers who can still sound decent singing more traditional or even operatic music. That's all you need when attempting to sing Christmas music in a way everybody expects.

Now, if there's a consistent pattern in who interprets Christmas music the best, it's in the consistency of country artists always excelling. Faith Hill is on this year's show and can make any Christmas song emotional as she's already demonstrated in the past. She's apparently never been on the show prior, so this helps widen Rockefeller Center's holiday talent pool so she can return in about two or three years. Of course, she has a new (and very good) Christmas album to plug, too.

The opera side of things will be Neal E. Boyd who won "America's Got Talent" this year. He fits the Popera side of things that Josh Groban usually dominates in. Groban's massive-selling Christmas album was last year, however, and means he won't be here this year as he was last year. But he'll be back, trust me.

When you add Rosie O'Donnell to the mix this year, you see the new emblem of bringing back real talent based on O'Donnell likely coming off a high of a ratings smash then for her new variety show special around Thanksgiving. If her variety show becomes a series, we'll assume that she'll feature the ever-shrinking talent pool of singers who you can safely say will still be known fifty years from now.

Those singers are now a part of not just the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting talent pool but every other Christmas special that features today's singers. That might mean President Barack Obama seeing the same group of artists several times over during the next four (or maybe eight) "Christmas in Washington" TV specials...
