New Star Trek Trailer Debuts Tonight

Star Trek fans get a special treat tonight, as the trailer for the new Star Trek feature film is being released with the new James Bond 007 movie. For those who are unaware, the new Star Trek movie is a recasting of, and a prequel to, the original Star Trek series, complete with Captain
Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the rest of the crew of the Enterprise from the original series. The new movie is set immediately before the Enterprise's five-year mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no man has gone before.

While the plot of the new Star Trek feature film has only nebulously been revealed, it is virtually certain to have a time travel element given that Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role as Spock, albeit a much older Spock. Various other plot elements have been revealed, including the prominence of Romulans as the main villians of the new movie, a backstory of how Captain Kirk came to be captain of the Enterprise and how he began his friendships with Spock and Dr. McCoy. It has been revealed that there is at least one scene with Leonard Nimoy as older Spock with Zachary Quinto, who is taking on the role of a younger Spock.

The classic Enterprise has undergone a redesign for its new big screen debut, featuring some changes that Star Trek fans may or may not be happy with, depending on whether they are Star Trek purists. The new Enterprise is unmistakably the Enterprise with its saucer, deflector dish, and warp nacelles, but more detail and reshaping have occured to make the classic Enterprise look less like a ship dangling from a string. Also to be featured in the new film is a new ship, of an older starship class, the U.S.S. Kelvin, which features a single warp nacelle instead of the familiar dual warp nacelles that Star Trek fans are familiar with.
