In his MacWorld Keynote Address, Steve Jobs announced the details of the much-rumored iPhone features. The iPhone features will include iPod functionality, phone capability, and internet browsing. The iPhone features that make the device unique include not just it's three-devices-in-one appeal, but also an innovative on-screen navigation interface, and lots of juicy extras. As Steve Jobs unfurled the secrets of the new iPhone features, it's little wonder that the MacWorld Keynote audience went wild! The iPhone Will Be A Three-In-One Device
Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone in his MacWorld Keynote speech by describing the three primary kinds of tasks that the myriad iPhone features will be able to handle. Steve Jobs called the device: "An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator." He then repeated "An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator.... these are NOT three separate devices!" The iPhone features will allow users to switch fluidly between iPod functionality to play music, state of the art phone functionality for conversation, and internet functionality with an interface that includes tabbed web browsing, and easy html email access.
On-Screen Navigation
Unlike most smartphones, Blackberry-type gadgets, PDAs, and other mobile devices which target the iPhone demographic, the iPhone features will not include a keypad on the device! Instead, Steve Jobs announced that the device will include only one button on the front, and will have a qwerty-style keyboard displayed on the screen, which is meant to be easily accessible without any additional tools. That's right: no stylus ! According to what Steve Jobs described in his MacWorld Keynote address, you'll be able to easily type on the iPhone keypad with your fingers, a huge step towards on-the-go usability in mobile devices. This will vastly improve the practicality of using a handheld mobile device for web browsing and online chatting.
