On February 8th, boys, young men and adults will celebrate a day in which a rich history and culture filled organization was born, known as the Boy Scouts of America. It is on this day that Boy Scout troops across the country will engage in festivities honoring the founder of the Boy Scouts of America, William Boyce, with various activities ranging from dinner events, dessert parties and even Boy Scout activities. As a parent of a young man, understanding the importance of Boy Scout Day will provide boys, young men and troop leaders with a look into the history of this unique organization. The Boy Scouts of America was founded on February 8, 1910, by a well known publisher, William Boyce. Based in Chicago, William Boyce, took the concept of "boys only" organization to a higher level by incorporating the concept into a business and bringing the various boys affiliated organizations, across the United States, together into what is known, today, as the Boy Scouts of America.
Through the years, the Boy Scouts of America has spanned into an organization reaching boys and young men of all ages. With the creation of Cub Scouts, even the youngest of the male generation are offered an early start into William Boyce's dream of a unified organization of Scouting. With Cub Scouting offered to boys as young as 6 years of age, many young men will continue into the Boy Scout traditions earning Eagle Scout recognition as teenagers and even pushing forward into a volunteering as troop leaders as adults.
Boy Scout Day, on February 8th, isn't just about honoring the memory of William Boyce. This day is also a day to recognize the many Boy Scout leaders, often fathers of the participating boys, who spend countless hours preparing and participating in the Boy Scout activities. For these male role models, the Boy Scouts has offered a rewarding volunteer experience while, at the same time, offered the young men of Boy Scouts with unique interaction into a variety of male influences.
