The PSP was designed to be far more than a game system, and it has certainly achieved that goal. One could argue that all the things it can do even exceed its gaming prowess. One area where the PSP displays particular competency is in its music playing ability. It's very easy to play music on the PSP, as simple as dropping your MP3s on to the memory stick.

From there, all one has to do is go to Music in the media crossbar and enjoy all their favorite tunes. With the 3.00 firmware, visualizations are added, so if you are so inclined, you can "watch" your music. Your music library is only limited by the size of your Memory Stick Pro Duo, but as of this writing, prices on these memory sticks have become far more affordable.

A 4GB memory stick can go for as little as 65 dollars, where at the PSP's inception, the same memory stick would be something around 600 dollars. 4GB is largely than many iPods, so your PSP can certainly be a one-stop music center, if you are so inclined.

Even though the PSP has a preferred music format, ATRAC3, it hasn't really been properly utilized as yet. ATRAC3 allows for more information on the music you are playing, at the same high fidelity audio. Right now, your best bet for free psp music is your own computer. Looking for free psp music downloads is no different from looking for mp3s.

Where you get those free mp3s is your own business. Whether they are psp music downloads or for other uses, you can get them from the same places. Of course, if you are willing to pay, iTunes has a remarkably thorough selection of mp3s for you to download. In addition, since the inception of the video iPod, music videos have become available through iTunes.

These videos can serve as psp music videos, as they are already pre-formatted to work on your PSP. Videos for the iPod come in the MP4 format, which is the same format the PSP uses. The only downside, of course, is the aspect ratio. Your PSP is versatile enough to stretch the 4:3 aspect to 16:9, however, but that is up to you. Television shows should typically stay in a 4:3 aspect ratio and DVDs are native to the 16:9 ratio.
