Vacations Are Great: But Problems May Await!

I love the idea of world travel and have spent hours researching, writing about, and staring at pictures of these grand and exotic places. From the tiny islands in the South Pacific to the huge urban streets of Paris, it's all fascinating. I fantasize about someday exploring each part of the globe, and I read up on where to stay, what to see, and where to go. However, I've never taken fate into account; shouldn't someone write about what to do if your dream vacation poses a few embarrassing problems? This is my checklist for vacations gone awry; what to do when unexpected trouble occurs and you're stuck in the middle of a population where no one seems to speak English.

A Checklist For Solving Travel Problems

Don't Let Stress Take A Toll on Your Family
(1) Stress: Ruining Trips Before They Even Start. It happens; people obsess over *every* detail while planning a trip, and when things don't go exactly how they planned, it sometimes makes the whole trip seem a little less rosy. This can lead to unnecessary stress that will set the whole tone of a vacation. Plan everything weeks ahead; have reservations, gather your visas, IDs, and any other information you may need, and print lists of restaurants and attractions in the area that will be visited. Do your research and find out admission prices. If everything is already sorted out, stress won't be prevalent during vacation.

No matter how many vacation "boo-boos" may arise, it's always nice to settle down and relax for the day at the hotel or motel of your choice.

Takeaways
  • Vacation problems usually aren't as horrible as they seem; talk through them and decide what's best
  • Buy extra clothing to take along if you fear losing luggage; don't take anything that couldn't be replaced
  • Study ID regulations, find out what visas are needed, and make sure to have everything ready before leaving
Did You Know?
World travel is certainly "in vogue," but if you don't like the idea of air travel, cruises are a terrific option for seeing the globe. If you want to trek across the country instead of the world, most of these tips are still helpful.
