Do you ever get the feeling that acid reflux is what use to be known as heartburn in days gone by? When I was a child remember my grandparents as well as my parents complaining from time to time about heartburn. What was known as simple heartburn in days gone by, now has a medical name which is Acid Reflux. Today, it would seem as if the FDA is determined to label everything as a disease so that they can create a drug to combat it. However, this is just a matter of opinion.

It is true that if left untreated over a period of time you may experience damage to your esophagus. In order to correct this condition, you can use expensive inhalers and medications which your doctor can prescribe for you or you may choose to use a natural method to control you acid reflux. Do not look to your doctor for ways to naturally combat your acid reflux as he will not have anything to offer other than the normal prescriptions which only cover the problem.

If you wish an alternative to traditional medicine where your acid reflux is concerned, you should first contact a natural medicine specialist. There is much information at your disposal online when it comes to this subject.

When it comes to heartburn or acid reflux, many of the things we do in our daily life can be the root of the problem. An example would be, if you suffer from some sort of chronic pain and are constantly taking a pain reliever. Pain relievers when taken on a regular basis can cause acid reflux. These drugs can disrupt the natural digestive processes.

When it comes to your diet, a diet which is high in acid and contains much fat can bring on an attack of acid reflux. Many will try to treat this instead of changing their eating habits. Try to incorporate an alkaline diet. Your body's cells are designed for a more alkaline diet. If you do not which to change your diet, at least do not eat such foods late at night and then go to bed. Some find relief from drinking a bit of apple cider vinegar when their acid reflux flares its ugly head.

Well Steve,I am a vegtarian and I have GERD, and I stopped eating meat 15 years ago, so I am not sure meat is the problem. Perhaps excessive meat consumtion can contribute.

A big cause of acid reflux is the excessive consumption of meat. Cut down your meat consumption and it will go away. Substitute green vegetables and the reflux will magically disappear.
