It's windy out today and besides being windy it is cold too. It would be easy to stay inside and tell the kids to play a video game or watch a movie. Or I could bring out a nice long board game like monopoly and we could spend a good part of the day playing that. Or I could get mean and say find some homework to do and don't bother me. But the kids are good and deserve to have some fun. Life doesn't always have to involve work or learning does it?Making life interesting is a challenge at times but if I think hard I come up with something. On a windy day if it is not too windy we could go out and fly a kite. We could make it really interesting and make the kite by ourselves. Or we could make two kites and have a kite competition. That is always a good windy day activity.
Blowing bubbles is fun on a windy day. The bubbles fly in the wind and it is fun to see where they float too. Some stay a bubble a long time before they burst. If it is a real cold day outside the bubbles can freeze and they really stay a bubble a long time. We had one last half a day before it finally popped.
If it is really cold outside like below 0 degrees. You can toss some water in the air and see it freeze. As the water falls it will make a pretty plunking sound as it hits the ground. A squirt gun works well for this. If you use hot water the results can be different.
Making a homemade wind sock is fun to watch for awhile. You can see what way the wind is blowing. You can take an ordinary sock and tie it too the top of a stick that you stuck in the ground and there you have an easy homemade wind sock. If you cut a hole in the toe of the sock it can fly higher with the wind blowing through the sock.
If it is cold out and you have some fresh clean snow you can take some maple syrup and pour it in the wind and let it hit some clean snow. You can make some drops of maple candy when it freezes on the snow.
My person favorite windy day activity is to read a book together or two or three books.
